Toll House Junction is at the bottom end of North Street and next to Greville Smyth Park. It is a very difficult junction for pedestrians on a popular walking route to the park and local schools. We want the council to improve this junction for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists.

Background information

This junction is a major barrier to walkability, discouraging parents to allow their children to independently walk to the local parks or schools. Crossings such as these permeate a culture of using cars for relatively short journeys, discouraging healthy choices and increasing pollution.

By removing this barrier to walkability, local amenities will be more accessible to the elderly and people with mobility issues. The health benefits of Greville Smyth Park will also be more accessible to all sections of the community.

At this junction, there are two entrances to the one-way stretch of Coronation Road, meaning that pedestrians effectively have two lanes of traffic to negotiate. Many of the vehicles turning into the one-way road from Ashton Rd do not indicate, as the road markings do distinguish between the two roads. In addition, vehicles often speed-up as they enter the one-way stretch. These two factors make for a very difficult junction for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists alike.
